Philanthropy is a dynamic notion grounded in human spirit and in family tradition. The mission of the Birks Family Foundation is to contribute to a higher standard of living and quality of life for all Canadians achieved through the attainment of the following goals:

1. To assist in higher education through the continued support of universities and schools and the establishment of bursary programs for needy students across the country. Education is a critical factor in improving standard of living and quality of life.

2. To support the hospital sector and health and welfare organizations.

3. To support qualified cultural organizations. These institutions are vehicles of positive social change representing the history, culture and social identity of the country.

4. Since it is hoped that the Foundation may continue in perpetuity, program interest and fundamental objectives may change in the future. Investment goals require time horizons for investing in order to keep pace with inflation or growth of capital.
